Lawrence Public Library, KS

With plans to upgrade the Teen Zone of their library, the staff of Lawrence Public Library combed the floor of the ALA Midwinter Conference in 2010 looking for products that could provide the form and function they were seeking. They were pleased to find the TotaLibra® shelving and design services offered by Demco. The library began working with Demco’s team to develop a space plan and select furniture and shelving that would give teens a space all their own.

The library selected a combination of taller TotaLibra shelving along walls and 48″H TotaLibra mobile stacks for flexibility. With a larger library expansion and renovation project in the early stages, flexible furniture that would adapt to a new environment was a top priority. Selecting frosted acrylic end panels for the shelving helped filter the natural light from the large windows in the space. A combination of TotaLibra’s C-leg and 4-leg tables provided options for teens to study independently or gather in a larger group. The library chose to offer a variety of heights for their computers, featuring a computer bar with metal stools at the perimeter and freestanding TotaLibra Technology Kiosks accompanied by contemporary poly stack chairs.
