Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, WI

After nearly 50 years using the same furnishings with the same drab colors and the same clunky properties Lincoln Elementary School was fortunate enough to get a completely redesigned library with furnishings that meet the ever-changing needs of today’s libraries!

Before their renovation in 2013, this library donned accordion-style movable walls that could create 3 rooms, none of which had windows or any natural light.  The original shelving had a very dark finish which matched the unattractive darkly colored carpet and other furniture that was not easy to move.

With Demco’s help, Lincoln Elementary was able to open up the room with natural light and brighten up the space with colorful furnishings and wall murals! A reading nook with plenty of soft seating, mobile flip-top tables for classroom work, computer lab, and color-infused shelving with integrated seating and displays are just some of the major improvements to this space. The library is constantly being used by small groups of students and volunteers and is now a convenient place for building and district staff meetings, after school programs and events, and even as a community room for artists in residence.

“I wanted a space that would allow multiple groups to use the library simultaneously. I also wanted a bright, welcoming space that could transform to fit the needs of the groups using it.”
